As well as Kirkpatrick's own personal and professional papers, the Kirkpatrick Bequest also contained Kirkpatrick's own collection of manuscripts and archival material. The majority of this material relates to the history of medicine and medical education in Ireland, but there are also a small number of items relating to other subjects of interest to Kirkpatrick.

[late seventeenth century] - 1951

Small collection of visual materials, including photographs, engravings, printing plates and glass slides or negatives. This is only a small part of the visual material which came with the Kirkpatrick Bequest, the majority has been mixed into the main collection of visual material in the archive and can be found in the Visual Material Collection (VM). An index to Kirkpatrick's collection of engravings can be found at TPCK/5/3.

1633 - twentieth century

Material relating to Kirkpatricks medical career, including case and fee books, lecture notes from medical school and research notes on area of interest. Kirkpatrick studied medicine at Trinity College Dublin, before being appoint anaesthetist at Dr Steevens' Hospital. He also worked as honorary visiting physician to the same hospital, and visiting physician to the Westmoreland Lock Hosptial. In both institutions he took a particular interest in venereal diseases (now sexually transmitted diseases), he was also involved in nursing education at Dr Steevens' Hospital.

1893-1937

Aside from his extensive research and writing into the history of medicine in Ireland, Kirkpatrick also researched into and collection information on the biographies of Irish medical men. This work culminated in the Kirkpatrick Newspaper Archive, which contains newspaper cuttings and biographical notes on over 10,000 Irish medical men and women from the earliest times up to the 1950s. This archive has not as yet been added to the online catalogue but a printed index can be consulted in the reading room. This section contains research material for the newspaper archive including manuscript notes and list and extracts from newspapers. It also includes other indexes relating to Irish medical practitioners, including Irish students of medicine at Leiden, TCD and Dr Steevens' Hospital, an index of wills made by Irish medical men and entries in the Calendar of Ancient Records of Dublin relating to medics.
